Recovered: Pair of Marcus Stone paintings

‘Spring and Summer’ by Marcus Stone

Recently recovered by the ALR, the seasonal pair of Marcus Stone paintings were reported missing in 1999.  The artworks had mysteriously disappeared from a private Washington residence during extensive renovation work.  The items were registered on the ALR’s database but did not resurface until August 2010 when the ALR identified the paintings at a major New York auction.  Acting with the full cooperation of the auction house the ALR arranged for the works to be withdrawn from sale.  Following negotiations between the ALR and an anonymous consignor, the items were released and returned to the uninsured theft victim in January 2011.
